How Tournaments Work

I was just looking at the last tourament "Up your Game" and I noticed that with 14 wins and 0 losses I still finished behind MadSkills who had 7 wins and 1 loss.

I am confused, as if it was say, 10 points for a win, 5 for a loss, surely I would have finished higher up.

So how does the overall points work?

The Tony Hawk tournaments work off of the ELO Scoring System.

Everyone starts with 1600 points, and from that point on, wins will add to that total, and losses will subtract from that total.  How many points a player gets for a win or loss depends on the player you've just played against.  Beating someone high in the tournament rankings will produce a higher "win" points total, and beating someone lower in the tournament standings will produce a lower "win" points total.  Playing against an opponent not in the tournament will produce a base "win" or "loss" total dependent upon the odds system within modified ELO.

This system is effective, and it is why you may have the same win/loss record as someone else, yet have a different points total.

Below is a wikipedia link on ELO if you want to read further.
