After taking a short break from THPG, I thought it would be fun to get back into wifi matches. So, after beating a guy about 6 times in a row, I thought it would be fun to try and do a really huge combo in a quick match of Red Light, Green Light. I accidentally bailed, costing me the match. And- no surprises here- my wifi score wen't down about 50 points because of it.
I simply am not going to tolerate a game that requires you to spend 5 hours winning matches in a row in order to "redeem" yourself from one lousy mistake. How is it that bailing ONCE suddenly makes me a worse player than 5 other people in the scoreboards? It isn't "fun" having to constantly DC just to keep your rank high, and it isn't remotely enjoyable to have a nervous breakdown every single time you get on wifi due to the remote possibility that you might mess up. No other game I've played on the DS is this ridiculously strict- Lost Magic, Mario Kart, Metroid Prime Hunters, etc, all REWARD you for playing games, not punish you. If you lost 40 points if you were a rank 3000 and you lost to a rank 1000, that I could understand. But losing 50 points because you're a rank 2000 and the other guy is a rank 1650? Something is wrong there.
I've already beaten story mode and all of the objectives. I already have the top rank for every score and combo leaderboard. If there wasn't a stupid 100 million point limit, I probably could get scores far higher than what I have now. I could probably beat TravmanN's balance scores, but it would require a lot of time and wouldn't do much good because nobody else is actually trying to get a high score in those leaderboards. And, as I explained earlier, wifi feels more like a painstaking chore than a fun side activity because of how screwed up the ranking equations are.
I would try to get clan scores, but the leaderboards for them are completely screwed up- they don't always average the players correctly and the scoreboards rarely update as fast as they should. So no matter how good I play in a clan, it's virtually impossible to jump them to the top. What's left to do? Art? Sorry, but spending 5 hours making something I could do in 10 minutes in Photoshop really doesn't appeal to me.
It's been fun, but until the multiplayer elements improve, I just can't stand playing this game anymore. That wifi match was what you could call "the straw that broke the camel's back".
