Now that there's a new THDS, I hope they aren't planning to shut down these forums like they did the THAS and DHJ forums when THPG came out.  Since there is no community site for Motion and they made the efforts a few months ago to speed up the responsiveness of this one I would guess they're planning to leave it up for now.  Besides, THPG is still available new at most stores and we keep seeing new members on FNF.

Animal Crossing is hardly boring for those who enjoy it.  Believe me, I know quite a few people who are totally hooked on the game and can't let a day go by without seeing what's new at Tom Nook's store or chatting with the townsfolk.   It is a laid back life sim, which is a cool concept.  Plus it is fun.  Sometimes it is nice to take a break from the action and/or combat games. 

As far the no major changes thing, it is an extremely successful formula and Nintendo doesn't want to break that.  How many times have the early Final Fantasy games been ported with just a few cosmetic changes?  The publisher doesn't want to mess with a good thing.  Some series are criticized for the games not changing enough, and some for too many changes (like the Mana series).  Some people like change and some don't.  Given that Animal Crossing has been a huge hit and remains one of the most popular DS games of all time, it isn't surprising that they kept it mostly the same.
